The mommy makeover refers to the combination of procedures that are intended to correct unwanted changes that have occurred to mothers following pregnancy, childbirth, and breast feeding. Moms will typically complain of breast sagging and/or deflation as well as changes in their bellies which may include abdominal skin redundancy ridden with stretch marks and/or abdominal protrusion from stretched abdominal muscles. As a result, the traditional mommy makeover will include a minimum of a breast lift with or without implants as well as a full or mini tummy tuck surgery.
Patients will undergo a breast lift only when they are satisfied with their overall breast size and just need a lift of their sagging breasts. Others may choose to have a breast implant added if they believe breast feeding caused significant deflation of their breasts.
Whether moms choose to have a mini or full tummy tuck depends on the degree that their muscles have stretched out as well as the extent of skin redundancy and stretch mark distribution. If moms present with stretched out or thinned out muscles so that their bellies can protrude outward, or if their stretch marks extend to above the belly button, then they are recommended a full tummy tuck with muscle plication. If their muscles have not been affected or their stretch marks are limited to below the belly button then they are recommended a mini tummy tuck. In general, if patients avoid large weight gain (less than 30 pounds) with their pregnancy and if they have experienced two or less pregnancies, they can get away with a mini tummy tuck! This differentiation between mini and full tummy tucks will be apparent in mommy makeover before and after results below.
Finally, moms may also consider contouring other areas that may have been effected. This includes the back and flanks and/or the lateral and medial thighs.
