Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Education
What is explant surgery? Simply put, it means to have breast implants removed. Women decide to or need to have implants removed for a variety of reasons. We will look at the seven most common reasons. You’re not alone if you’ve had breast augmentation […]
Before discussing what to expect with a neck lift, let’s first describe the procedure. A neck lift is, in surgical terms, a lower rhytidectomy (facelift). This procedure aims to reduce or eliminate the visible signs of aging at the neck and jawline. Here Is What […]
Before we discuss the BBL after 10 years, let’s look at how it has evolved over the years. The BBL has become one of the most popular cosmetic operations in the past several years. This technique, also known as Brazillian Butt Lift, is when fat is utilized during VASER high definition liposuction to improve the shape and projection of the buttocks. More and more, fat transfer is replacing implants as it gives surgeons the opportunity to customize the patient’s results and recovery is faster and simpler. Many prominent figures have had a Brazilian Butt Lift, causing it to soar in popularity. You most likely know who we’re talking about: Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, and Jennifer Lopez, to name a few. It’s challenging to get the increased shapeliness by diet and exercise alone. Without BBL surgery, having that result may not even be possible.
People often ask if their BBL will look the same in ten years. I spoke at the World Association of Gluteal Surgeons in Miami in May of 2022 on the topic of long-term BBLs and the trends we are seeing as surgeons. This is a question as a board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon I am frequently asked by patients considering the BBL procedure.
Plastic surgery before and after photos allow patients to determine what results are feasible. These photos can help prospective patients appreciate what they will look like after their desired procedure. When a surgeon provides ample number of before and after results, it can make it possible for a patient to find someone that looks like themselves. Most importantly, it is a critical factor to making an informed decision when trying to choose the most qualified surgeon.
An experienced plastic surgeon will present numerous before and after photos to demonstrate that they are an expert by the sheer number or volume of cases performed. Furthermore, they will present their patient outcomes using multiple views. By observing multiple angles or 360-degree view of the outcomes, prospective patients will better appreciate how meticulous a surgeon is. For example, merely improving the appearance of the abdomen following a tummy tuck without regard of the flanks is no longer acceptable. Today body contouring requires improving the torso circumferentially, termed 360. As a result the term, lipo 360, has become popularized over the last few years. The addition of HD, HD lipo 360, has provided even more expectations in outcomes as it denotes high definition which requires results to be exceptional and “jaw dropping”.
A Critical Eye
You must pay close attention to the actual details in the before and after photos. The terminology that we teach our patients is to “Judge photos with a Critical Eye.” Patients will quickly realize that it’s not enough for the post-procedure picture to be presented smaller than the pre-procedure picture. For example in before and after photos, the sizing of plastic surgery can be manipulated such that it isnot indicative of improvements following a body contouring procedure. For example following liposuction body contouring, the outcomes can be manipulated so that the after photo is smaller than the pre photo. This does not mean that successful liposuction was performed to make the patient look smaller and rather that the post photo has been taken from farther away to make the patient look smaller.
Furthermore, patients should look for improvement in contour lines and aesthetic curves created by the surgeon. Even changes in lighting must be constant so that differences in lighting don’t create the illusion of improvements. For example – a more exposed or brighter lighting photograph can hide wrinkles, making a patient’s facelift result or cellulite look better than it really is.
Fat transfer for BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) also called fat grafting, for body shaping has become popular in the U.S. and other countries.
The larger, shapelier buttocks originated in Brazil, where the standard of beauty embraces the fuller female bottom. The U.S., by contrast, was focused on breast enlargement. Today, fat transfer for BBL is one of the fastest-growing cosmetic surgeries, especially among the Millenials. This is partly due to the focus that celebrities like Kim Kardashian have brought to the public eye.
These body-sculpting procedures start with precisely controlled liposuction on problem regions like the belly, inner and outer upper legs, upper abdomen, and back. A BBL with fat transfer requires more fat, as a rule than other areas as it takes a relatively large amount of fat to make a noticeable difference.
Healthy fat must be preserved to give the surgeon the necessary amount to create a sculpted result. The method of liposuction used in this process affects how much fat is available for harvesting without damaging the cells. For example, with Laser lipo, the heat can damage fat, lessening the amount of fat suitable for transplant. With VASER ultrasound liposuction, the maximum amount of viable fat can be harvested as this method is far more gentle and does minimal damage to fat cells and surrounding tissues.
After the fat has been purified, it is injected into the areas where you want to see more volume, projection, or a curvier shape.
Transferred fat is softly molded during a body-sculpting procedure to generate smooth, rounded curves and a new feminine form. It’s the all-natural way to a curvier, shapelier you! It can bulk up the pectoralis area and create an athletic BBL for men.
Benefits of Fat Transfer Body Sculpting
Since fat grafting uses your own fat, you have no risk of rejection or allergic reaction, and the results look natural, providing the proportions are optimal.
When fat grafting is used to enhance the shape and size of the buttocks, a Brazilian Butt Lift produces instant, long-lasting results. The hourglass curves are stunning when done with other body sculpting, like waistline snatching or rounding out hip dips.
Weight loss and exercise alone may not always be enough to get our desired figure or physique. Patients receive multiple benefits from fat-transfer treatments, which dramatically improve the form and proportion of their bodies in the hands of a talented and artistic surgeon. Enhancing attractiveness is a big self-esteem booster.
The closed-loop fat grafting system optimizes Brazilian Butt lifts by improving both safety and aesthetic outcomes. The closed-loop system refers to the ability to harvest fat via liposuction, clean the fat, and reinject the fat back into your buttock while the fat is never […]

Scarless skin tightening is a game-changer in today’s high definition body contouring arena. This is because a large subset of the population want to avoid more invasive excisional surgeries. Excisional surgeries require deeper sedation such as general anesthesia. General anesthesia requires more rigorous preoperative precautions such as blood tests and evaluation by your primary care physician to get surgical clearance. General anesthesia requires administration of inhalation anesthetics delivered through a tube that is associated with postoperative grogginess and several days of recovery.
Finally, excisional surgeries, are associated with longer incision lines that require prolonged recovery and potential for visual scarring. These side effects of more invasive surgeries deter three subsets of patients that include the older community that wants to avoid general anesthesia and more arduous recovery.
The next patient population includes younger patients who do not wish to have the stigma of a surgical incision line or cannot take time off of work. The final population involves the gentlemen who are more reserved and don’t want to share with others that have undergone cosmetic surgery and may not have the luxury to take off from work for a prolonged recovery period.
